            2/6/2018 - One of NJ's 100 Safest Cities

According to the National Council for Home Safety and Security, Aberdeen Township was listed as one of “New Jersey’s 100 Safest Cities”. NCHSS is a trade association compromised of home security professionals across the country that advocate for safe communities and home safety with a strong focus on community involvement. The list was released after the NCHSS rated towns with populations greater than 10,000 for violent crimes per 1,000 residents and property crimes per 1,000 residents. To identify the safest cities in New Jersey, the NCHSS reviewed the most recent FBI Uniform Crime Report statistics along with their own population data and internal research. Any cities that failed to submit a complete crime report to the FBI and cities with populations under 10,000 were eliminated from the list.

New Jersey has a violent crime rate of 2.41 per 1,000 residents. Crimes that are considered violent are aggravated assault, murder, rape, and robbery. Our property crime rate is 14.96 per 1,000 residents. Crimes that are considered property are burglary, arson, larceny-theft, and motor vehicle theft. All towns on the safest cities list have crime rates in both categories significantly below the statewide rate. As of 2017 New Jersey is the 3rd wealthiest state in the nation by median household income and one of the safest.

Coming in at number eighty-five is Aberdeen Township, with a population of 18,562. Aberdeen Township logged 18 violent crimes and 147 property crimes. Aberdeen has a violent crime rate of .97 per 1,000 residents and a property crime rate of 7.92 per 1,000. Aberdeen Township is one of nine Monmouth County towns that made the list including, Colts Neck, Hazlet, Holmdel, Howell, Manalapan, Middletown and Wall. Monmouth County Sheriff Shaun Golden was quoted on saying, “Congratulations on a job well done to all the towns who made the list of 100 safest cities in New Jersey and their Police Departments. Maintaining public safety for our families to grow and our businesses to thrive is the most important function of government on all levels.”

Aberdeen Township’s Mayor and Council cannot be more ecstatic to have Aberdeen listed as one of New Jersey’s 100 safest cities, as per the NCHSS. “I am proud of all the fine men and women of the Aberdeen Township Police Department that continue to keep our town safe,” said Mayor Fred Tagliarini. “Thank you to our police department and residents for a job well done, keep up the good work.”
